Review: Law Abiding Citizen is a tale of muddled morals When a wronged man takes the law into his own hands, ticket buyers often flock to theaters to watch. It's here that Clyde is incarcerated for his act of revenge. So we get a sepia-toned palette, long shadows and a variety of pompous compositions arranged around the pillars, foyers and corridors of the City Hall, together with the stone cells of the city's 19th-century jail. Then somebody decided they'd be better able to foster the illusion that they had something to say about justice if they switched the shoot to Philadelphia by virtue of it being the birthplace of American legal principle. Returning to that statue of Penn, when the film was first conceived, it was going to be shot in Los Angeles. With his sharp suits, silk ties and a sheen born of unabashed ambition, he's as self-important as the film itself – which is quite an achievement. Then, still not quite satisfied, Clyde arranges a DVD of the operation to be sent to Rice's home, where his unsuspecting young daughter happens to see it.įoxx now takes over as the film's hero and it's hardly an entrancing prospect.
The law abiding citizen plus#
The second killer's end is even more protracted than his accomplice's and its blood-drenched aftermath is enough to test the forensic fortitude of the entire cast of CSI plus spin-offs. Clyde, it seems, has spent the bulk of the past decade fortifying himself with torture porn. If it's retribution he wants, why shouldn't he have it? Well, the answer to that one is canvassed with particular thoroughness in the sequence that follows. And up to this point, he's made it very easy to barrack for Clyde. In the past, he's proved personable as both rom-com star and action man. Butler ( 300, The Ugly Truth) is handsome in a rumpled, friendly way, with his crooked smile and air of what passes for self-deprecation.
